Last weekend we decided to have a cultural day. So, we went to the Getty Center in the Santa Monica Mountains.
It is a great place to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee!
The Center opened its doors in 1997. It was founded by J. Paul Getty, an ardent collector of art. He made his fortune in the oil business.

You can appreciate European art from the Renaissance to Post-impressionism but also a great department of photographie.
The Center is located a the top of a hill which is connected to a visitor's parking (at the bottom of the hill) by an electric tram.
In this moment (April 9 - July 21 2013) there is a special exhibition at the Center :
Overdrive : L.A. contructs the Futur 1940-1990 |
This exhibition is about the impressive evolution of Los Angeles (population, landscape, rise of buildings, freeway network, architecture, historical LA and it neighborhood, etc.) but also things that affected (or still affect) LA (conflicts, Hollywood, art, economic and industrial situation etc.)
We are not allowed to take pictures during the tour, but you can find explanations, pictures and really great videos through the The Getty Center website.

I took this picture before seeing the taking picture ban sign !!! |
The access of the Center is free, but you will be charged $15 for the parking.
Do not forget to enjoy the view of Los Angeles and Santa Monica...if the weather allowed you. There was a bit of fog for us.
